World Bee Day is celebrated on 20 May. On this day Anton Janša, the pioneer of beekeeping, was baptized in 1734.

To mark the occassion I've set up another solitary bee hotel, it contains both 6mm and 8mm tubes. The smaller tubes are preferrered by mason bees.

The tubes are sealed at one end with tissue, as I learned last year is necessary. I will fill the rest of the space with more tubes over the coming days. They are housed in a large old can, this will keep the rain and light out.

My existing one is filling up nicely, 4 'rooms' entirely filled already and plenty of the others are partly filled 😊
